The Bochs
Project released a new version of their open source Intel x86
emulator for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS today. The emulator has many
useful applications that IT departments may want to investigate.
When asked why IT managers should investigate Bochs, project
administrator Bryce Denney responded
"As Bochs hardware emulation
becomes more mature, it could be a useful way to test drive a new
operating system before committing resources to it." Mr. Denney
continued,
"Also, an emulated machine could function as a
'jail' for network applications under development, since the
consequences of exploits or accidental damage would be limited to
the resources under emulation
control."
