Many people look to operating systems such as Linux when they need
reliable security. However, like any other system, there are many
tools an administrator should have at his disposal to get
optimal security in Linux. That's why
MandrakeSecure
makes so much sense.
This newly announced part of the Mandrake
Linux family of sites is meant to provide the security conscious
sys-admin (that should be
every administrator) with the tools
they need to secure their systems. The site, as you would expect,
focuses on Mandrake's Linux distribution, however it appears that
users of other flavors of Linux would find it helpful
too.
It should also be pointed out that while
MandrakeSecure is a new site, that by no means should be
construed as saying it lacks content. I was quite impressed with the
large amount of links to security related documents, software tools,
and websites they already have featured. The site also conveniently
includes a discussion board, and links to the latest Mandrake-issued
security advisories.
