OpenDNS is an excellent tool for filtering - you just change your
DNS settings then go to their site and adjust the settings to your
preferences.

Also, I have the Tomato router-replacement on our router (have
used it with LinkSys - now Cisco, Netgear, and Asus routers) --
it allows some granular tweaks to user access, load balancing,
router power settings, etc.
