Just an interesting aside here.  Many times I have heard this taken as
we would see it today (hot being good and cold not good)implying that
God would rather have us not even try to follow him (cold) than to be
halfway there (lukewarm), but, in the context of the times, both hot and
cold were good and the lukewarm was not.  Hot water is useful for
bathing/washing/etc. and cold water is useful for drinking/cooling/etc.
but the lukewarm isn't useful for anything and is thrown out.
