One man's nationalism is another man's idolatry.

As for a biblical model of felicity: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and pray at length as a
pretense. Therefore you shall receive the greater condemnation."
(Matthew 23:14)

"Her rulers in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood
and to destroy souls, to get unjust gain." (Ezekiel 22:27)

"For so has the LORD of hosts said, 'Cut down trees and cast a mound
against Jerusalem! She is the city to be visited; there is nothing but
oppression in her midst.'" (Jeremiah 6:6)

I have no trouble associating these verses with my government, for
pretty much the same reasons as the men who voiced them about their
government. I read the same Bible as you do, and I see a nation which
has steered so far from God for so long there is no hope for redemption.
Within our lifetimes, I am utterly convinced this nation will fall.
Respect means I don't take up arms against my government, nor any of her
agents. I have better things to do, preparing myself and others
spiritually for the time when we are placed under martial law.

In my humble opinion, we could not even agree on the basic rules of
proof, since I generally reject the entire Western rational basis for
understanding Scripture and morality. While you've been teaching
college, I've been studying ancient Semitic logic, and doing my level
best to adopt it.

That logic dictates I shut up now and make no further comment on this
thread.
