I would if it were easier, it's day 2 and I'm still trying to fix the
crippled multimedia support.
Video support is working now, but I can't get proper mp3 support without
some "libmad.so.0" package or something of the sort. No matter where I look
for that rpm I can't find anything but the source code which I would then
have to make into an RPM, and that in itself takes quite a bit of time to do
properly.

I personally use XMMS for mp3's and VLC/Mplayer for any video/dvd

I installed the entire MPlayer package from
packman.links2linux.org<http://packman.links2linux.org>and the later
ran Yast. Upon starting the package management portion of YaST
I was prompted about what to do about the broken "libmad.so.0" dependency
MPlayer had and knowing full well that such an rpm would have to be built
manually I simply allowed Yast to remove the MPlayer package. All the Video
support I needed I already had in the packman xine and w32 codecs packages.

I don't quite understand this "Out of the box" argument.

If the distribution has good multimedia support from time time of
installation then I don't have to spend two or three days tracking down all
the rpms I need to fix it.

Personally I like the fact there is a little bit of a learning curb with

I tried learning Slackware and then spent time building packages for Ark
Linux, personally there's too much documentation out there which assumes a
solid background to make it even slightly easy.
