I confess, I'm a jEdit fan.  I run it at work and home, especially
since the interface is the same for GNU & Win systems.  It is truly a
handy tool.  I like the dockable file browser and the ability to split
windows twenty different ways if you need/want to.  It's highly
configurable, offers syntax highlighting for just about any kind of
language, and offers plug-ins.  I use it for all my text editing.
