Don't be surprised. Democrats consistently support abortion. This not to say that some do not, but you don't hear from the right wing of the Democratic party too often. Democrats also (again there are some exceptions) believe in the mythos of "Separation of Church and State" despite historical evidence to the contrary. I might suggest a visit to http://www.rnc.org and read thier "I am a Republican" statement and see if you agree with it. Indeed, I used it and Luther's 95theses as the basis for my "I am Lutheran" statement on my personal webpage. Hope this helps a little.
