I'd echo Bob's recommendations; I've gone "legacy free" without
any real problems on my part, but that'd be what I would do. Anyway,
laptops with less built in ports and drives are lighter...
Concerning eBay, I know a lot of people are leery of it, but
might I suggest you might reconsider? I've had very good results
using eBay, so long as I read very carefully what the seller says he
is selling me, ask about any possible confusing issues before bidding
and only deal with sellers that have very good feedback (and not just
the numbers, but also the written feedback comments). Following those
steps, so far, I've always managed to get exactly what I wanted at a
better price than elsewhere. Oh, one more tip: watch auctions for
several days -- the first unit you see of the type you want may not
be the best deal... the best deals are probably auctions that end at
non-peak hours on weekdays, but it varies depending on what you are
buying. When trying for an iMac a few years back, I would bid on a
machine but only go so high... after about a week, I got a great deal
on one that was nicer than I was hoping for.
