[CS-FSLUG] Television

I agree generally with the notion that our culture is quickly becoming
enamored by things we find utterly disgusting. I also wonder how much
of the filth is really "customer-driven", that is in response to what
people want. How much of it is a bunch of boneheads sitting around an
office, saying, "how far can we take the sex scene this week"?

I've also seen/heard that the cable companies will be offering
homosexual-oriented content as part of their basic cable services.
Allegedly, you won't have any say in whether you get the service,
it'll just be there. If this is true, I promise I won't be supporting
Time-Warner. BTW, the channels I get with the 'ol rabbit ear also
play the reality shows. And NYPD Blue was supposed to have had a
pretty steamy scene in it way back when.

I participated in a campaign to petition the FCC in the wake of Sonny
Bono's fould remarks. I also sent off an e-mail to Sen. Dole (as part
of the campaign), who promptly responded her agreement. Shortly
afterwards, the FCC clamped down on the network involved.
churchcoalition.com is the website to check out.

However, I have also disengaged myself from that group due to one of
its members writing effectively that inter-racial marriage is against
the Bible. Moses married an Ethiopian (Zipporah), and I am a man of
Irish descent married to a woman of Irish, Native American, and
African descent. While the OT warned sternly against marrying foreign
women (who worshipped other gods), nothing at all is said of this in
the NT, beyond the mention of being unequally yolked with unbelievers.
God himself intervened when Aaron & Miriam spoke out against Moses.

The issue raises a concern in my mind about how much power the
Christian Coalition folks have over our thinking. I would happily
participate in a different campaign that is not attached to the racial
stigma.
