Here's the (outdated) history on CS-FSLUG. CS-BibleStudy is currently on
extended hiatus for those wondering, although if I can get some
volunteers to help with it, maybe it will return. Same goes for the QOTW
(Question of the Week).

CS-FSLUG's History
- ------------------
I thought some of you might enjoy knowing how CS-FSLUG got started. It all
started on January 16, 2002 with a few messages I sent out to Jerry Kreps,
Ciaran Hamilton, JW, and Jonathan Drews. The message said:
--------
I just wanted to invite you to join ChristianSources Free Software and
Linux Users Group, a new mailing list (and perhaps more eventually) which I
hope to turn into a nice community for Christian free software enthusists.
You can find the signup page for CS-FSLUG at
http://www.uninetsolutions.com/mailman/listinfo/christiansource_uninetsolutions.com
--------
In the days after that, these guys helped to hammer out the Statement of
Faith and FAQ that you see on the current site. After the Statement of Faith
was ratified by the administration team on January 19, we put the finishing
touches on the FAQ, and then sent out the announcement on January 20, 2002:
--------
From: "Timothy R. Butler" <tbutler at uninetsolutions.com> (Universal Networks)
To: "LX-Talk" <lx-talk at mamalala.de>, sword-devel at crosswire.org

Hello everyone,
This is just a brief message to announce the launch of the ChristianSource
Free Software and Linux Users Group, a mailing list for Christian Linux and
Free Software enthusiasts. If you would like to learn more about CS-FSLUG,
please take a look at http://cs.uninetsolutions.com .
Thanks,
Tim
--------
Leon Brooks was the first to respond to the announcement and hop over to CS,
but some of the other current active CS-FSLUG members also joined almost
immediately from the LX-Talk (SuSE users) and SWORD Developers lists,
including Fred Miller and David McGlone. The announcement also ended up going
to other lists such as Crosswalk.com's forums.
In the months coming up after that, we had numerous others join, and saw
various new features spring up, including the QOTW (March) and CS-BibleStudy
(mid-June). However, the biggest change happened when Linc Fessenden agreed
to merge his Linux4Christians mailing list with CS-FSLUG. While some of the
members there dropped off due to the much higher posting volume here, many
have stayed on and CS-FSLUG's subscriber list went from 19 members to 43
overnight (after everything settled down, we had 40 members).
Shortly there after, long time CS admin Jonathan Drews resigned due to lack
of time to dedicate to CS-FSLUG, and in early September the administration
team held a "special election" in which Fred Miller and Eduardo Sanchez were
chosen to join the administration team.
In all, according to my count, this list has transferred over 8150 messages
(with 54 current members) in the last year, making it a really big success. I
know it couldn't be here without God's help... Let's hope He continues to use
this list in the coming year.
Thanks everyone for being a part of CS!
