I do have to admit to having seen several episodes of the first series
(round about the time of Baird's initial experiments, I believe), and
recall nothing except the initial Doctor whose face I can still see but
whose name is forgotten (except that if I ever become a Time Lord I
shall remember). Oh, and the theme tune, which I thought, and still
think- probably showing that I'm sad- really cool.
That they are now using Eliot quotes gives me hope, and I must try and
watch the next series. (Cue opening titles and theme tune...)
"Not with a bang" has really entered the language along with
E=MC(squared), 42, Catch 22 and a few (!) lines from an
Elizabethan/Jacobean playwright whose name also escapes me.
On the other hand so have words like Sellotape and Hoover, so what price
literary fame?
Terence
