[CS-FSLUG] Ubuntu Black and White Kaffeine

I am re purposing an old Pentium 3 500MhZ machine for a family who has no
computer in my church.  I decided to put Ubuntu on it and all seems ok
except the DVD player.  Totem doesn't work worth a fiddle and I can't get
any codecs to stick on it.  It will play a DVD in Kaffeine using Kaffeine
Xine engine but its in black and white.

I have never had these hassles with FC what am I doing wrong here?
