Ahh that was it, thanks!  I found a different section of the registrar
site called "create nameservers based on this domain" which I hadn't
seen before - it's in a different place than the place where you set
nameservers.  It just gave me an opportunity to map "ns.mydomain.com"
to an IP.  And it works -- excellent!
