Just nitpicking: "the folks at Rome" should read, IIRC, "her superiors 
at the religious order of nuns where she belonged." It was her 
superiors who wanted her to be a teacher in a school for well-to-do 
girls. But I cannot say this with absolute certainty; I might well be 
wrong.
