I have to agree here.  Bennett's remarks are not ignorant or stupid.  He
was interviewed on one TV program (I forget which) where he tried to
explain it better and it mentioned one of his prior positions (drug
czar?) in which he would have intimately known the statistics from which
he was speaking.  That is not ignorant.  In today's Arizona Daily Star
there is an opinion piece that ends with

"The former philosophy professor picked a hypothetical he thought would
make the horror of such utilitarianism obvious to everybody.  Murder a
whole generation just to lower the crime rate?  Disgusting!

"Bennett's real mistake was in thinking people would be mature enough to
get it."

I think I have to agree with the conclusions of the editorial.  With all
the politically correct movement and such our society has been dumbed
down enough that it is hard to have a mature discussion anymore.
