"There have been many visible signs of Microsoft's begrudging acceptance of
open source: The company's management software will keep track of both
Windows and Linux machines. Its virtualization software will run Linux and
other x86-compatible OSes. CEO Steve Ballmer is rumored to have met with Red
Hat CEO Matthew Szulick. The software giant has even hired a number of
programmers who have a high profile in open-source circles. With Linux widely
installed among its corporate clients, Microsoft has chosen to accommodate it
rather than ignore it. Indeed, the company has no choice. News.com's Martin
LaMonica reports."
