Supreme Court Lets Ban on Gay Adoption Stand

In a decision that will have far reaching implications, the Supreme Court of 
the United States has refused to review Florida's ban on homosexual adoption. 
This decision effectively means states can bar homosexual individuals from 
adopting children. Florida is currently the only state banning homosexual 
adoption, but lawmakers in several other states are debating similar 
measures. 

This is an issue that has been smoldering in the Sunshine State since the 
original ban on homosexual adoption was passed in Florida in 1977 with the 
help of entertainer Anita Bryant. The ban has seen several efforts to repeal 
it and multiple lawsuits. All have failed. 

Now that the Supreme Court has spoken and turned this issue back to the 
individual states where it belongs, you can expect other states to soon 
introduce legislation based on the Florida model. 

"The State of Florida has made the determination that it is not in the best 
interests of its displaced children to be adopted by individuals who engage 
in current, voluntary homosexual activity," the appeals court stated in the 
original decision. "We have found nothing in the Constitution that forbids 
this policy judgment." 

And they flatly stated in words that should be tattooed on the forehead of 
every activist judge, "The legislature is the proper forum for this debate, 
and we do not sit as a super-legislature to award by judicial decree what was 
not achievable by political consensus." Amen!!!
