Greetings all,

I thought I would take a moment to let everyone know I have spoken with Andrew Sears of the TechMission group. TechMission supports Christian computing centers around the country, and serves about 500,000 people. They're interested in combining efforts with Freely on the CD project. Personally, I welcome the idea, as it would allow me to expend my energy in other areas. One of the ideas behind free/open source software is the ability to re-use code, thus reducing the effort required to build from scratch. I believe this applies to the CD project as well - no need re-inventing the wheel. They already have a CD, based on the GNU CD, but lack some of the apps we have been privy to.

They are also interested in seeing more FOSS solutions geared toward content filtering for Windows (maybe even GNU/Linux) workstations, as many of the people they serve cannot afford the extra money for proprietary solutions. Accountability service is another approach, where if you visit a site that seems inappropriate, your accountability partner gets an e-mail. Some of you may already know of something along these lines - I do not. I have suggested that Bro. Sears post this as a needed project at CODN.

I see an opportunity for us, as a community, to grow further and to reach a broader audience. I am sure they can benefit greatly from participating with us as well. We have already opened their eyes to a hidden treasure in the way of FOSS for Christians & churches that they were not aware of. This highlights the importance of making our community more visible to the outside world. I hope we can find other ways to combine efforts as well. Anyway, drop by TechMission and learn more about them.
