The only argument I've ever heard is that killing, even in combat is
wrong. I didn't agree, but I eventually got out of the Corps, partly
because my time was up, but partly because I did not feel I could
continue to serve as a Christian. Not really sure how to explain it.
It's just that we were singing these stupid ditties that glorified
barbaric deeds.

It may sound stupid, but I actually got sick of singing things like,
"Burn the Village! Rape the women! Eat dead babies! Oorah!"

and the like. I thought it was pretty weird, but kinda cool at first.
Of course, my walk with the Lord wasn't where it was when I got close
to the end of my contract. Of course, you have to sing this garbage
at the top of your lungs. No wonder people think the Marines are
crazy! (And I don't deny it one bit, either!).

That was my coming to terms. In all reality, I probably got out just
because I wanted a new adventure. But my awareness that things like
that clashed with my understanding of God and His love really made it
difficult for me to justify staying in. That said, I would prefer
that the whole of Christendom be the warriors on the battefield.

That was whom John Brown chose for his raid on Harper's Ferry - Christians only.
