I did too (I think it was mostly back with RH7.3).  It was "pretty cool"
 Although I have thought lately of doing something similar, right now I
don't see as much need when I can have two 1920x1080 monitors side by
side.  (It reminds me of some tricks that used to be done for small hard
drives or little RAM that just don't seem as necessary now.)
