My problem is not that I can't find info about vcard. Really the opposite.
There is lots of info, but none that I have found that is clear enough and
thourough enough for me - so far.

I've been using a DOS database for 20 years or more ("File Express") Some
features of it no longer work in any modern system, and none of it was
designed to interact with either graphics, or the internet. But I'm used
to it, and it really is quite powerful for a 20 year old Dos program.

Here's what I need:
I need to be able to define the number and size of fields (unless size is
not important in a more up-to-date database).

And I need to be able to search by any field, or at least by any of several.

I need to be able to transfer information from my old system to a new one.
(I can save to CSV, or several other formats)

I need to be able to set up several separate databases using the same
program.

I need to be able to edit any field in any entry after it has been entered.

I need to be able to use the information in Windows, Linux and
Android,(and DOS would be nice) after it is set up with my own data. (But
probably set it up in Linux)(Probably have to use different programs in
each OS of course.)

I'm thinking that maybe vcard fills the bill, but can't really find much
info about it's flexibility, or power. What limitations are there on the
names of the fields? Which front ends are the best? Or am I just barking
up the wrong tree?

What can you tell me. Thanks, Dave
