I think you are quite right.  I hesitated to put that missive forth. 
Although I stay pretty well abreast of what's happening in this world, I
am well aware that salvation is from the Lord.  I long ago quit trying to
fix anything by political action. As another prophet sang a few decades
ago"...don't ask me for answers. I only have one: that a man leaves the
darkness when he follows the Son!...."

But the law (as a principal) is still our "school master" to bring us to
Christ. In desperate times who knows how many will weary of trying, and
come to trust.
