If (and this is a big if) nVidia really is in trouble as the reports posted by 
Ed seem to imply, I won't be sad. I do not like companies that are adamant on 
using proprietary kernel modules and drivers for GNU/Linux. I've recently 
killed nVidia from a procurement spec of 3 PCs, and changed them for Intel on-
board graphics instead. It's a horribly inferior solution, of course; but they 
behave better on this regard, so they got that business. And nVidia *will* get 
my kill vote as long as they insist on releasing proprietary drivers for 
GNU/Linux.
