But I would think that Gnome would be out because of its 6 month
release cycle. It is Gnome that is responsible for the 6 month release
cycle of Ubuntu that everybody hates.

As to graphic tools.... If you are working with non-techies, why offer
them choices that only clutter their menus and obscure the essentials.

BTW, I believe you can use Thunar, PCManfm, or whatever file manager
you want in icewm. I have had automounting with it. And there's always
roxfiler. ;-) I know that somehow, Puppy has stuff on its toolbar, and
I have added network and other tools to icewm. I think there are ways
to emulate pretty well a DE with the various wms. I would still look
there, rather than to gnome or kde if you want long-term stability and
compat. But then again, I'm a novice. ;-)
