A Mac laptop is ok in my books, but I'm a desktop kind of guy, and
there's no way I'm spending $2700 CAD on the only Mac desktop that I can
open and work on as if it were an ordinary computer. Thanks, but no
thanks. Besides, they're cost prohibitive.

I have a shuttle system down by my feet that has a Pentium D processor
in it, 2GB of DDR800 RAM, and a GeForce 6200 video card. It cost me
roughly $250.00 CAD less than a Mac Mini would, and yet manages to run
circles around the Mac Mini I gave dad, as well as the MacBook I have. I
don't know if the hardware or software is to blame, but I do find it
astonishing that just about every web-browser I try on Mac OS X shows
visual signs of strain and unresponsiveness on sites like Digg and
Reddit, meanwhile FireFox on Linux or Windows on what would normally be
considered lesser hardware runs circles around the same experience in
Mac OS X. I don't know why, but that's been my experience with every Mac
I've seen so far. When I'm watching videos embedded in a web browser on
a Mac I can roll my mouse wheel down to scroll and see the jagged
scrolling motion a second and a half later. I'd rather avoid getting
used to that kind of experience, it just doesn't seem normal at all.
