A news article was published about a phishing scam,

The culprit was based out of Quebec Canada. This young
man, living at home with his parents.

Crime #1: He used their internet connection to hack
into an Ohio State University server and set up his
phishing page.

Crime #2: The page solicited and received personal
information such as bank account numbers, credit card
numbers, passwords and more under the guise of being
the official correspondance from a well known bank.

Crime #3: This personal information, stolen from more
than 30 people, was used to purchase video games,
electronic equiptment and other expensive purchases.
The amount spent exceeded $4,000.00.

Crime #4: When confronted by a news agency, the young
man lied through his teeth, cleaned out his e-mail,
changed the passwords on everything and destroyed the
incriminating evidence.

The Responce:
Idiocy #1: When the Quebec police were contacted, they
responded that they don't handle internet financial
crimes.

Retardation #2: The U.S. agencies redirected the
victims to the Canadian police.

Does anyone see why this crime looks so inviting?
Heck, it's like a cash cow. Commit the crime as
sloppily as you want. Even if you get caught you just
lie about it. The police don't care. So, in the end,
no matter what happens you win. If it wasn't for the
sake of fooling the actual victims, he could host the
stuff on his own server at home and use his real name.
