Well, it seems that everyone in enterprise is
switching to the Gnome Desktop, with it's free,
unrestricted GTK library. I'm assuming that all the
enterprise editions want to standardize on a single
desktop so that apps on one Linux system (Redhat) can
be ported to another (SUSE) without the user seeing a
difference. Makes it easier to switch.

Well, KDE has alot more eye candy. It is definately a
superior toolkit to GTK. That said, superior does not
always equal winner (OS/2 vs Windows). In this case,
Trolltech's license from 3 years ago is probably
biting it in the butt. If it had been free and open,
maybe the enterprise desktops would have standardized
on them and they'd be selling support contracts to
major enterprise customers. Then again, maybe not. In
the world of computer politics, I am definately not an
expert.
