I find that in Linux, the power saving method is not as flexible or easy 
as in MS Windows. For example, in my Athlon64 desktop, even with cpufreq 
and cpudyn active, it doesn't go into the low power mode (cool'n quiet) 
even when the cpu load is less than 10%. Also, in my laptop, it doesn't 
automatically dim the screen or spin down the HD when I took off the 
power brick. It may not be much, but every little bit of saving help 
when you are on the road.
