If you're using KDE, I found a very easy way to print. (I have an 
HP812C.)  Install CUPS and configure your printers in CUPS. Then in OO 
or Mozilla, or whatever ap you want to print from, in the printer 
command line just remove whatever is in there now and insert "kprinter 
--stdin", without the quotes of course. Now, when you print, it will 
bring up the kprinter dialog box, set your options, and press print. 
Works fine for me, but YMMV.
