[CS-FSLUG] ISO backups of removable media

I've been wondering how to make backups of my removable usb drive in Linux and 
mkisofs came to mind, now I've only got one problem with that, how do I make 
sure the ISO was made properly and should the need arise how would I rewrite 
the ISO image back to the USB drive?

If perhaps using mkisofs isn't the best way to make backups what then should I 
use?
