This is happening on my Slackware 10 machine. I've had Slack 10 running for about
..., just checked my log book, I installed Slack 10 on 7/31/04. In /var/log I
find five files: messages, messages.1, messages.2, messages.3, and messages.4.
Messages.4 being the oldest, I opened it up in an editor, and the oldest MARK
entry is dated "Sep 27 04:50:31 lightstar -- MARK --". I browsed the other
files and the MARK messages are in them also. So, I can only assume that syslog
has been doing it all along, I just never noticed them before.

Does anybody know the purpose of the MARK entries? Are they just to let you know
that the logger is working?

Thanks to all for all of the replies,

God bless,
Jerry
