[OFB Cafe] is there some flaky .avi spec we don't know about?

greets, one and all.

i've pulled the material i need from dvd and have used avidemux to edit out 
the stuff i don't want and apparently save it as an .avi file. it plays 
here just fine . . . but it won't play on other machines (particularly 
macs, though quicktime is supposed to handle them). is this some weird 
specification that gets redefined by every application? is there something 
a little more universal to which i could export it?
