I'm really not sure I agree here. Sure, liberalism is very strong in
Europe, but when you say liberalism you mean socialism. When Europeans
say liberalism, they mean classical liberalism, which is closer to
what you would call libertarianism, i.e. valuing individual social and
economic freedom. There is a tendency in Europe towards rather large
welfare states, but the bare-faced authoritarianism seen currently in
the UK and US has little parallel in mainland Europe.
