I recently bought a Brother printer and haven't had problems with it.
As an aside, if you feel inclined to jump through a couple of hoops for
them (depending on your thoughts on the principals involved), you might
install Windows on a virtual machine for the tech's satisfaction.
Another option is to get in touch with a "consumer advocate" that some
of the TV stations or newspapers have to give them a story to pursue
about the unreasonableness of the tech support you're getting.
