I agree.  You just need to setup cups service.  Not sure how you go 
about doing this with Gnome assuming you are using stock Ubuntu.  Even 
in KDE there are probably at least three ways of setting printing and 
print management.

Samba can do this too!  But probably is a bit of overkill.
