Well it seems like you've solved your problem, but I have a theory as to why 
every so often e-mails don't quite make it to the list.

You see, Tim has a system all run by automated scripts. First the e-mail 
arrives, then it's printed, inserted into a sock and thrown into the dryer 
with all the other message containing socks from the list. The dryer is 
turned on and any socks that don't misteriously disappear in the dryer then 
have their messages removed, scanned in, and sent through the list for 
everyone to read.

It sounds silly, but it does seem to have eliminated the spam problem :-) .
