[CS-FSLUG] OT: Lawmaker Hopes to Open Churches to Political Speech

AMEN! There is no reason churches need to speak directly in regards to
politics. Churches are already granted wide latitude to confront
issues and public policies and there is no need to expand the existing
boundaries. Churches should not be in the habit of putting themselves
out on a limb in endorsing a particular person in the political arena
because what if that person then has a moral failing, it reflects
negatively back on the church for endorsing that person. Churches
should stick to dealing with issues and encouraging people to vote as
responsible citizens and to vote according to their conscience, but
never to tell their members who to vote for. If a particular church
wants to get deeper into the political arena then they can voluntarily
give up their tax-exempt status and endorse openly whoever they want,
but I doubt many churches would want to do that...
