  The first sign that a hard drive is on the way out is when you have to 
manually mark bad sectors. The firmware usually does that in the 
background without you knowing about it; that is until you have to do it 
manually, as the space allotted to the firmware *repairing* the hard 
drive is used up.

If you ever have to do it manually again -- back up your data and get a 
replacement ASP.
