My tendency has been to store my data on CD or a remote box, and start
fresh. Using Windows taught me to do a complete installation. I
don't know about upgrading Linux - never tried. Too gun shy. Others
have reported success with upgrading SUSE, but I haven't heard much
about Slack or Debian.
