I use bittorrent all the time,

I use it almost daily to upload tv shows that I
missed. These are 300-400 meg downloads, and I average
60-100K. The real problem is the torrent "community"
involved in the transfers. I use Azureus (the best
java client out there), and I can set all the
parameters (including ports) myself. I have my upload
set at 20, which is standard proceedure in the
television program world, since torrents are only hot
for a day or two, and hundreds of people are in a
torrent at a time. The Mandrake people (and I did use
the torrent) are greedy leechers. They won't free up
bandwidth and cut off as soon as they are done instead
of seeding. I think it is because of the size of the
download, people see the slow download and squeeze
their upload rates (to make it fair). This philosophy
is what makes for slow downloads.

After technology has said and done all it has to say,
it is usually people that mess things up.
