I'd be glad to help. You will of course use Samba3, but that's a given.
You can pretty much drop any idea of running your own domain, unless you
want headaches. Config samba to be a workgroup member. I have a much
different setup here. I play in the domain territory. It should be
pretty easy.
I haven't really setup a Lin client to an XP share, but that should be
an easy LinNeighborhood share away. What might be easier in getting
someone setup is a program that reads the samba config file and configs
itself from that. Does such a thing exist?
I've actually been thinking about playing with this at home. I installed
SAMBA ages ago, but haven't managed to get around to the config part
yet. I should have some free time Sat. to play with it and see what
hitches might exist.
