Well, folks, when I unplugged the switch (to which nothing else was
plugged in), my firewall stopped logging attempts to get *out* of my
system using a bogus IP.

Could the switch have a virus? Could it have been compromise some other
way? I got it from a fellow who had been cracked at one time in the past.
