This just goes to show that God is very patient. The whole symbolism is
of a husband with an unfaithful wife -- God is the husband and Israel
the wife. Even though the unfaithful wife broke the marriage covenant
(the Law) many times and the husband had righteously sent her away, he
was told to buy her back again -- something unheard of.
Read chapter 2 and 3 to see the happy ending!
