Redhat now uses xinetd instead of initd.  There is an xinitd.conf, but
they recommend putting the changes into the /etc/xinetd.d directory.  I
do not know about SuSe.  But if the RPM you dowloaded did not work for
the distro you have, then you probably downloaded the wrong rpm.  When
looking for a stray RPM, I usually look on www.rpmfind.net.  (When I do
not use yum to download the latest)
