Back in the early 1980s as I was just beginning to get involved in the
pro-life, pro-family grass-roots movement, I had the opportunity to
work with a man who had taken the mantle of an organization that was
defending religious liberty. He had been working to get the church more
engaged in the battle for several years and had just simply burned out.
As he left the organization and the arena entirely, he made a comment
that I have never forgotten.
