Pondering the unmet needs of a really satisfactory desktop Linux, and

using the 'new distro model' put forth in previous email, I would want

to put desktop environment in the app-sets, as follows:<br>

For 'Infra', just one, something light but neophyte-compatible.  Every

single non-hobbyist I have ever helped learn a system since Windows

3.1, has required a GUI file-management desktop with icons for

applications.  EDE if it's nice and stable, XFCE otherwise -- on the

other hand, Puppy is using something very light and very stable, anyone

know what it is?<br>

For 'Chroma', it might be possible to use just XFCE.  <br>

<br>

For 'Ultra', from whichever *dm, we always have XFCE, KDE, and Gnome

available.<br>

The last time I investigated lite desktop environments, copy/paste was

the big rub.  Copy/paste between Mozilla, OpenOffice, KDE

apps, and Gnome apps is an absolute must.  Anyone know how EDE and XFCE

are doing in this regard right now?  Plain text only is acceptable,

though I would very much prefer to not underperform Microsoft as is

usual in this regard:  copy/paste of images between OpenOffice and

Thunderbird (for example) is possible, though usually not done in Linux.<br>
