Religion hasn't a very good record on this subject.  It was Protestants
who tried to deny Catholics (and baptists brethren, pagans, muslims and
others) this liberty of conscience in the first years of the American
colonies. (and some of them since then).  Even enforcing their ungodly
opinions on the rest on pain of death.  Before that it was the Romanists
that murdered and burned at stake any who disagreed with their
totalitarian ways. And the muslims took this habit to the depth of
conquering entire civlizations with it.  None of these (as movements) ever
backed down from these fatal opinions until they were forced to do so at
the point of the sword.

Meanwhile from Adam to the present God has allowed men wide latitude to
choose or reject, with clear revelation of the results of their choices.
Every one of us is today faced STILL with the same choice: "Choose you
this day whom ye will serve."

This priest is right about the present situation, but the root of the
problem is much deeper.  James pretty well nailed it in the first 8 verses
of chapter four.
