Although, in some ways, it is a pity that such terms exist at all. It
seems to quickly turn a discussion about the correct way forward in
any given situation into an 'us' and 'them' argument - instead judging
each different idea on its own merits, many people seem to first
figure out whether the proposer of the idea is on the 'left' or
'right' side and then immediately accept/reject the idea based on
that. From my point of view, for example, I can still appreciate quite
a few of the policies espoused by right-leaning politicians even if my
own political beliefs would probably be classified as 'left-wing'.
