[CS-FSLUG] The Scale of Things

I prefer to consider, even meditate, before I speak to some things. Our
recent discussion about whether earthquakes and volcanoes signal
anything biblical echoes similar ruminations back through history since
the Old Testament -- portents, omens, signs etc.

The one thing which strikes me is, if nothing else, it reminds us we
take ourselves too seriously as humans. Without the salty language of
George Carlin's monologue on "Save the Earth," it's easy to see the
volcano in Iceland, along with any number of other Acts of God, show
that the earth is hardly paying much attention to us. That is, natural
processes, whether threatening, or merely seeming so, seldom seem to
consider the critical timing and scale of things we simply must be doing
in this modern world.

Perhaps God is simply saying what we invest with so much time, energy
and resources may not be what He considers important.
